Historic Landmarks Commission

Annual Status Report

2009

Events

Staff held a CLG Preservation Workshop on June 10th, 2009, at 1:00 p.m., at the HLC office; it ended with a tour of the original Charlotte Coliseum.  The workshop theme was mid-twentieth century modernism. Three HLC Commissioners, Mr. Gray Newman, Dr. Richard Mattson, and Mr. Matt Benson, attended.  Therefore, the HLC maintains its Certified Local Government status.

Past Projects

1)  The HLC Purchased the Robert & Elizabeth Smith house, located at 1708 Park Road in Dilworth (for $460,000.00) on February 2, 2009, and sold the house (for $480,000.00) on June 30th, 2009.

2)  Mr. Edgar E. McQuay generously donated the McQuay House, located at 3200 Tuckaseegee Road in West Charlotte to the HLC in early April 2009.  The Commission sold the McQuay House for $20,000.00  on June 10, 2009, to Contractors who will rehabilitate the house, bringing it up to code.  The Commission retained ownership of the land behind the house.
