Re: 10=/- acres at Northeasterly Corner of Rea and Colony Rds. – Mecklenburg County tax parcel # 211-241-05

Dear Dan:

As you probably know the referenced property is designated as a future shopping center site in the South Mecklenburg District Plan. We have selected a developer who plans to proceed with rezoning soon. We understand that the Historic Landmarks Commission is interested in preserving the Grier-Rea house located on the property. Therefore, we propose the following:

The Grier-Rea house will be donated to you if you agree to remove the house from the property on or before August 31, 2002 and if you agree to not take any action to have the house declared "historic" until after it is moved. We can offer you a site for relocation of the Grier-Rea house on a part of tax parcel 211-593-15 across Rea Rd. (see map). The site will have approximately 100 ft. of road frontage and will be approximately 218 ft. deep (about 0.5 acre). It would be your responsibility to obtain a boundary survey of the site for seller’s approval and to assure that the site meets all subdivision and zoning requirements for the intended use. The offered price for the site is $125,000. Please note that the site is currently leased until July 31, 2002 and the lessee has the right of first refusal to purchase.

This proposal is offered as a means to preserve the Grier-Rea house while allowing us to proceed with the development of our property. We request your support of our rezoning effort.

Sincerely,

Jane R. Clute, coexecutrix of the Estate of Thomas Leon Rea

Thomas H. Rea, coexecutor of the Estate of Thomas Leon Rea
