In the 1940s, the expansion of Cone Mills resulted in the growth of the initial mill village.  Modest, two-room, shotgun homes were built on what was once called "Rabbit Hill."  These homes were built for the new workers and their families who moved to Pineville.  Many of the homes that were on the hill have been demolished.
