Guidelines for revolving fund projects
Project Name: Historic Preservation Revolving Fund
Program Description: The fund was established by issuance of public
bonds to preserve and rehabilitate properties that are deemed
"historic."
Eligibility Requirements: Historic designation (Individual
significance and contributing structures within a locally designated
historic district).
Level of endangerment.
Economic viability.
Assumptions: Property or item is available for purchase.
The Landmarks Commission believes the preservation project would be
worthwhile to the public.
Geographic Area Served: Charlotte and Mecklenburg County in the
southern Piedmont of North Carolina.
Items for Consideration: Potential projects include individual
buildings, structures, sites, areas, or objects which have been studied by
the Commission and judged to have historical, architectural,
archeological, or cultural value.
Ownership: The Historic Landmarks Commission would become the owner
of any project under the revolving fund. Protective covenants would be
written into the deeds to assure the longevity of preservation.
Alliances: The Landmarks Commission may, at its discretion, pursue
preservation projects with government agencies and non-profit
organizations. The Commission will not become involved in development or
rehabilitation projects for the benefit of private individuals or
for-profit entities.
Administering Agency: Charlotte-Mecklenburg Historic Landmarks
Commission (Subject to approval of the Board of County Commissioners of
Mecklenburg County).
