AGENDA

Ms. Hockett welcomed everyone to the meeting.

The only item of business to come before the Committee was consideration of the construction of a garage/apartment at the Chairman Blake House.

HLC Staff reviewed the plans, and a general discussion ensued with Ms. Thompson and with the members of the Committee.  The proposed project involves the building of a 1 1/2 story, 24 ' wide and 36' deep detached garage.  The proposed garage is front-gabled, with two garage doors on the front elevation, a pergola extending from the west elevation, and features five gabled dormers.  The height of the proposed garage would be 24' from grade to roofline.  Proposed materials include asphalt shingles and Hardiplank-type siding (thin cement-based boards with typical reveal of wood siding.)

MR. BENSON OFFERED A MOTION SECONDED BY MR. BOOKOUT TO RECOMMEND TO THE HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION THAT THE APPLICATION FOR THE CHAIRMAN BLAKE HOUSE, 318 CHAIRMAN BLAKE LANE, DAVIDSON, N. C., BE APPROVED AS PRESENTED, WITH THE CONDITION THAT THE APPLICANT TAKE SOME MEASURE TO MITIGATE THE IMPACT OF THE HEIGHT OF THE PROPOSED GARAGE/APARTMENT AND TO DEVELOP WITH HLC STAFF DESIGN SOLUTIONS FOR THIS ISSUE FOR PRESENTATION TO THE HLC AT ITS APRIL 11TH MEETING. THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MOTION.

There being no additional business, Ms. Hockett adjourned the meeting at approximately 8:45 a.m. The next meeting of the Design Review Committee is scheduled for April 26, 2005 at 8:00 a.m.
