Director's Report

January 9, 2006

1.  The County will be initiating the budget process for FY' 07 in the near future.  I anticipate that the Commission will be recommended for a current level budget, meaning that there will be no betterments.

2.  The Charlotte City Council did approve historic landmark designation for the Elizabeth Lawrence House and Garden and the McQuay House.

3.  The Board of County Commissioners did approve replenishment money for the HLC's revolving fund and money for Charlotte Trolley, Inc. to assist with the construction of a restoration barn and museum facility.

4.  The Board of County Commissioners approved a resolution naming January 4, 2006 "Jack Orr Boyte Day" as requested by the HLC.

5.  I will be teaching a class at UNCC on Mondays that last until 5:50PM.  Consequently, I am requesting that the February, March, and April meetings of the HLC  begin at 6:30 p.m., not 6:00 p.m.

6.  I will be meeting this Thursday evening with owners of commercial buildings on Main St. in Pineville to discuss how the preservation of the buildings might be achieved.  This is part of the Commission's preservation strategy for the town.

7.  The Survey Committee will be meeting on January 26th to consider several draft Survey and Research Reports which UNCC students produced during the Fall semester on buildings in Davidson.  A UNCC intern will be working with the Town of Davidson in devising a comprehensive preservation strategy for the town.

8.  A bus tour of HLC projects was conducted on January 8th.

Respectfully submitted
