Director's Report
November 8, 2004
A. Information
Items.
1. I am meeting on
Monday (today) with officials of the Town of Huntersville to discuss
arrangements that would govern a collaborative project to purchase the
Jordan Farm, stabilize its historic buildings, and offer the property for
sale. The Town Council of Huntersville has directed the Town Manager
to enter into these discussions.

2. The prospective
buyer of the Oakley House in Pineville has not presented a counteroffer. Bob
Lore of Meca Properties informs me that other parties have toured the
property.

3. Pat Nystrom, the
Commission's attorney, continues to work through the details associated with
closing with a buyer of a portion of the Oates Building at the Charlotte
Cotton Mills.

4. The site for the
relocated Bethesda School has been identified at Rural Hill, and Bryan
Turner will be overseeing the move of the building, the construction of the
foundation, and basic stabilization of the structure. I did meet with
the County Manager to discuss this issue, and he stated that he thought it
was logical for the Commission to request restoration money in the upcoming
budget cycle.

5. Staff continues
to work with Grubb Properties with respect to scheduling the hearing for the
prospective designation of the Lloyd Presbyterian Church Cemetery as a
historic landmark.

6. The
Town of Matthews has not contacted staff about a possible
collaborative project on the Bost House. I will keep you informed.
7. The Commission
has several upcoming joint public hearings. They include: November 9th
(tomorrow) the Davidson Town Board, November 15th the Charlotte City
Council, and November 22nd the Matthews Town Board.
8. The Survey of the built environment of Pineville
is complete.
A presentation of the Survey to the Town of Pineville has been scheduled for
November 16th.

9. The Center City Charlotte Survey is virtually complete.
Staff will be meeting with the Chairpersons of the Survey Committee and the
Education Committee to consider the most effective way to bring the findings
to the attention of the City of Charlotte.

10. Two historic
landmarks are endangered. Both are in the Steele Creek Community.
The owners of the Robinson House will be applying for a Certificate of
Appropriateness to demolish the structure. The owner of the William
Grier House is apparently planning to sell the property for development.
Staff will keep you informed.
