Director's Report

February 13, 2006

1.  The County will be initiating the budget process for FY' 07 in the near future.  I will be seeking to reallocate existing funds to allow Stewart Gray to become a part-time County employee.

2.  Jennifer Klish, a student intern, has started her work with the Town of Davidson.  In my judgment, the Commission is making a major contribution to historic preservation efforts in the town.

3.  Staff will be appearing before the Pineville Town Board on February 14th to explain the next step in the implementation of a comprehensive preservation plan for the town's commercial core.

4.  The Commission now has the N. S. Alexander House under contract and will be moving ahead with the performance of due diligence.

5.  Joe Kluttz and I visited White Oak Plantation within the last month to discuss preservation options for the property.

6.  Grace A.M.E. Zion Church has advanced a suggested addendum to the contract to purchase the property.  Patricia Nystrom will be explaining the issues involved.

7.  The preservation plans for the Commisson's two Silverside or Fishbowl buses continues to evolve.  Staff hopes to have more definitive news in the near future.

8.  Preservation efforts continue at the Grier-Rea House.  The property should be ready to go on the market in April.  Plans for the upfit of the Sidney and Ethel Grier House should come before the Design Review Committee at its next meeting.  Marketing efforts continue at the Rozzel House.  Preservation plans for the Oehler House and the McAuley House will be forthcoming in the upcoming months.  The Commission continues to offer space in the Charlotte Cotton Mills.

Respectfully submitted
