Director's Report
February 12, 2007
1. The Citizens Capital Budget Advisory
Committee will be meeting with HLC Staff on February 21st to hear the Commission's
request for Capital Project Funds for the Fall 2007 Bond Referendum.
The materials are being distributed for your reactions.
2. Offers have been received for the N.
S. Alexander House. The Commission will need to convene in special
session to consider the offers.
3. The shower repair has been completed at
White Oak Plantation. Stewart Gray continues to develop estimates for
the repair of the water damage at the rental house at White Oak.
4. The plastic coverings for the
windows at Grace A.M.E. Zion Church have arrived and will be installed in
the near future. Word from the prospective buyer of the adjacent
property has still not been forthcoming.
5. The County Budget Department will be
working with HLC Staff to prepare an operational budget request for
2007-2008. I will advise you as this process moves forward.
6. I have discussed with Ted Anderson,
regional director of the Preservation North Carolina, the idea of his coming
to an upcoming meeting of the Commission to explain PNC's activities,
including those in Mecklenburg County. I will schedule a time for him.
7. PNC has sold the Abernethy home on
Eastway Drive to a buyer who will renovate and preserve the house.
8. Staff continues to work with Pat
Nystrom in obtaining approval for the interlocal agreement that will allow
the Commission to continue to function for the outlying towns.
9. Staff has heard rumors about a
prospective buyer for the Hayes Byrum Store in Steele Creek who would
demolish the building. The property is already designated as a
historic landmark.

10. There has been considerable interest
expressed by prospective buyers of the N. S. Alexander House.
Rehabilitation of the house continues.
11. The closing on the Oehler House will
be occurring in the near future. All due diligence issues have been
resolved. 12.
Staff has received inquiries from Crouch Brothers regarding the Commission's
schedule for moving the McAuley House to its permanent site on the Oehler
property. Staff will be developing a recommendation to the Commission.
13. I have asked Robert Schmitt to
develop cost estimates for expanding the scope of the renovation of the
Sidney and Ethel Grier House to include fencing the property, completing an
additional bathroom, and completing the kitchen. Bryan Turner is
arranging for Robert Schmitt to gain entry into the property.
14. The Grier-Rea House should be ready
to be listed with a realtor in the next sixty days. Staff will be
working to move this project forward.
15. Environmental assessment of the
Torrence Lytle School has been completed. Bryan Turner will be
presenting cost estimates at either the next Projects Committee meeting or
the next HLC meeting.
Respectfully submitted,
