Director's Report
February 11, 2008
1. Special thanks to Lynn
Weis, Richard Alsop, and Richard Mattson for planning to attend the
workshop scheduled with the Lincolnton Historic Preservation Commission.
Unfortunately, the workshop was canceled because of the snow. It
will be rescheduled.
2. CSX has notified the
Commission that it is willing to donate the building to the Commission
if the building is moved. CSX is not willing to sell the property
at this time because it is investigating the property for an ethanol
depot.

3. Lexie Longstreet
has signed the buyer's listing agreement to identify owners of property
in the Pineville commercial district who might be interested in selling
their property.

4. Bank of America continues to work with
the owners so that the sale of the property to the HLC can move forward.

5. Staff is moving ahead
with processing Fire Station No. 4 for prospective historic landmark
designation. The HLC will hold its public hearing on April 14th,
and the hearing before City Council will happen on April 21st.

6. The following
additional properties are being processed for historic landmark
designation. They are: Wing Haven, Solomon Levine House, S. B.
Alexander House, the Lingle Hut, and the McCausland Building. The
letter from the Division of Archives and History regarding the
McCausland Building raised questions which staff will take to the Survey
Committee for consideration.
7. Staff has not received a
report from the City Attorney's Office with respect to how other
communities are handling the issue of demolition by neglect. Staff
will continue to maintain contact with appropriate officials.
8. The final report on the Hyde
Park houses and other modernist structures should be finished in the
near future.
9. The annual budget process for the
Commission has begun, and staff is involved in negotiations with
appropriate officials concerning the HLC's operations budget.
Staff will keep the Commission informed as this process moves forward.
Respectfully submitted,
Dan L. Morrill
