Submission Guide

The Hornets' Nest welcomes the submission of scholarly articles about the history of the Carolina Piedmont and Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. We seek manuscripts representing various fields of historical inquiry, ranging from political, economic, labor and social, to more specialized areas such as historic preservation, urban studies, the history of medicine, literature, folklore, military history, and anthropology. Manuscripts should be well-grounded in the context of the history of the Piedmont Region. We also accept reviews of recent scholarship in this field.

To submit a manuscript to The Hornets' Nest, send four hard copies and an electronic copy on a DOS-formatted disk in MS Word to:

Please include a cover letter that supplies the following information:

Name

Telephone number

Email address

Institutional affiliation

Filename of article and of additional material on disk

Suggested links to materials and internet resources

All text should be prepared in double-spaced typescript according to The Chicago Manual of Style and should be no longer than 10,000 words using a font no smaller than 12 points. Since submissions will be evaluated anonymously, the author's name should appear only on the title page.

Please do not submit a manuscript that has been previously published or that is being considered for publication either in another journal or as a book.
