Ms. Ross discussed the time for the next meeting. Ms.
Richardson welcomed everyone to the meeting and explained the on-going
projects of the Committee. Ms. Richardson explained that an ad hoc
committee would be overseeing the development of the bond
campaign. The members will be Mike Sullivan (Chair), Joe Kluttz, Ross
Richardson, John Parker, Jeff Bradsher, and Laurie Smith as liaison with
the Education Committee. The ad-hoc committee will be meeting in early
December and will begin plans for a January presentation to the Board of
County Commissioners. Ms. Richardson also stated that planning for
additional projects would be suspended until the bond campaign becomes
clarified. A video will be e-mailed that Mike Sullivan has prepared as a
sample of what might be used in the bond campaign.
Dr. Morrill explained his reactions to the
presentation he made to the Board of County Commissioners last week
about the overall effectiveness of the HLC's programs. He stated
that there were many questions about the need for additional bond money.
Dr. Morrill explained that he had discussed the
transfer of the home page of the website to the County server. Dr.
Morrill will be participating in training on how to use the County
software. The County is also determining how much time will be involved
in transferring the entire site or major portions thereof to the County
server.
Dr. Morrill explained that he is most interested in
having a student intern work with the Commission in making the general
public aware of the African American Survey that the Commission has
conducted.
MR. MISENHEIMER MADE A MOTION, SECONDED BY MS. SMITH,
TO RECOMMEND TO THE HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION THAT HOPE MURPHY BE
RETAINED BETWEEN JANUARY AND MAY 2004 AS AN INTERN FOR THE COMMISSION TO
DEVELOP EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS ON THE AFRICAN AMERICAN SURVEY, THAT SHE
WORK FOR 145 HOURS AND THAT HER STIPEND BE $9 PER HOUR, FOR A TOTAL OF
$1305. THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MOTION.
There was no old business.
Mr. Misenheimer explained that the Catawba Valley
Historical Society approved last Saturday the hosting of a Revolutionary
War Battle at Rural Hill in 2005.
The next meeting of the Committee will be at 6 p.m.
on December 22nd.
