Dear Dan:
My letter attached responds to a March 25 letter I
received from Stewart gray advising that on February 11, 2002, the HLC met
and voted to recommend to the Charlotte City Council that Elmwood/Pinewood
Cemetery be designated as a Historic Landmark. Mr. Gray states, "if we
receive no response, the HLC will assume that you support the designation of
this property."
In a letter from City Engineer Jim Schumacher dated
January 7, 2002, we advised the Commission staff that the City could not
support designation of Elmwood and Pinewood Cemeteries as a Historic
Landmark at this time, but would be in a position to review this matter
later in the year. Our letter also formally requested that the HLC
defer further discussion of this designation until mid-summer 2002.
Dan, I don't understand why we received the March
25 letter since we had advised the HLC on January 7 of our desire to defer
this designation. I would appreciate hearing back from you that the
HLC will defer further discussion per our earlier request.
Sincerely,
Pamala A. Syfert, City Manager |
