| October 7, 2002 Mr. Stewart Gray
Your letter of October 2, 2002, was received on Friday, October 4, 2002
regarding the status of the above property. Mr. Gray, the HLC was given the
opportunity to purchase this property. You knew what my asking price was,
and yet you came in with an offer of approximately $100,000 below my price.
This of course was rejected. Recently the house only was offered to
you at a very reasonable price. You rejected this saying after dealing with
the Grier-Rea house, you were out of the moving business.
I am at a loss to understand why, if you don’t want the house, you
are so anxious and determined to get it designated historic, when I have
been very explicit about my objection to this. I don’t want to have to get
permission to make repairs – and the house needs many – after being broken
into so many times and also vandalized, as well as all the things stolen
that have to be replaced. I am too old (upper 70s) to have to contend with
fighting with you over this.
Will you please honor my wishes and leave this alone until I can decide
whether to repair or demolish the house.
I am unable to attend your meeting since I have glaucoma and can not see
to drive after dark, since my husband died. Thank you for your
consideration.
Sincerely,
Ann Greer
