Historic Landmarks News

Spring 2002

The Commission is joining with Pappas Properties in restoring the former Charlotte Cotton Cottons Mills Building at North Graham and West Fifth Streets in Charlotte.  Peter Pappas, Bryan Turner, and David Murdock are inspecting the progress.

Opening up and repairing the large skylights in the roof of the building is letting light enter the historic interior.  The building, part of Charlotte's first cotton mill, will be sold as offices.  For information contact Bryan Turner at 704 336-8816.

The Newell Community Association has asked the Commission to consider this house for designation as a historic landmark.  Part of the J. A. Newell property, the house is on East Rocky River Road.
The prospects for restoring the historic front facade of Charlotte's trolley barn have improved substantially.  Charlotte Area Transit and the City will be working with the HLC to move ahead with buying and saving the building as the future home for Charlotte's vintage streetcars.
