The Commission is most interested in preserving burial sites.  The owners of Thornberry Apartments have placed this plaque on the fence surrounding the W. T. Alexander Slave Burial Ground.
The land adjoining the W. T. Alexander Plantation House has now been cleared for an apartment complex.  The Commission continues to develop a site plan for the property.  The reconstruction of the barn as residential units will begin this summer.
The Commission worked with the developer of South Point Office Park to save the Neely Slave Cemetery.  Improvements of the property are now underway.  Stay tuned for future developments.
The Commission is working with the owner of the Dinkins Cemetery on Nations Ford Road to incorporate the cemetery into development on the property.  Some of the graves date from the late 1700s.
