The Charlotte Cotton Mills was
Charlotte's first textile mill. It literally transformed the economy
of this city. That's why the Commission is working so hard to save its
historic remnant.
The Commission is permitting new
window openings to be placed in western wall of the cotton mill. These
windows will purposely be compatible with but not duplicative of the
original historic windows.
The stripping of paint from the W. T.
Alexander House continues. Also, the damaged trees have been removed
from the property. Notice how the absence of white paint transforms
the house's appearance.
The Commission has been unsuccessful
in obtaining an agreement with the owner to sell the property to the
Commission. The Commission has submitted two offers. Both
have been rejected.
