The Landmarks Commission is holding public hearings to consider landmark designation for the:

A. Davidson Colored School/Ada Jenkins School

“Davidson Colored School/Ada Jenkins School” (listed under Tax Parcel Number 00323325 and including the interior and exterior of the 1937 school building and .5 acres of land around the building as shown on the attached exhibit “A” listed under Tax Parcel Number 00323325 in the Mecklenburg County Tax Office, Charlotte, North Carolina as of October 1, 2007)   The property is owned by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education and is located at 212 Gamble Street in Davidson, North Carolina

B. Ranson House

“Ranson House” (Listed under Tax Parcel Numbers 01711306 and 01711316 and including the historic house, outbuildings and land associated with Mecklenburg Co. tax parcels 01711306 and 01711316 in the Mecklenburg County Tax Office as of October 1, 2007).  The property is owned by William F. Raines III and Rehnea Raines and is located at 412 South Old Statesville Road in Huntersville, N.C.

A. Mecklenburg County Courthouse

 

The applicant is Mecklenburg County.  The Commission has design review control over the exterior of the building.

The Design Review Committee did not vote to recommend that the application be approved.  Committee Chairman Matt Benson and Committee Member Richard Alsop later met with the applicant to review the project and now recommend that the Commission approve the proposed project as presented.

B. Home Federal Savings and Loan Building

At the May 2007 Landmarks Commission Meeting the Design Review Committee recommended that:

No decision should be made regarding the proposed parking garage until sufficient documentation is presented by the applicant giving details of the exterior architectural elements so that a judgment can be made about the issue of compatibility.

Full plans for the garage have now been submitted to the Commission.
