FELDER TO RECOMMEND TO THE HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION THAT THE DAVIDSON SCHOOLHOUSE AT RURAL HILL BE MADE AVAILABLE TO THE CATAWBA VALLEY SCOTTISH SOCIETY, INC., NOVEMBER 2 - 4, 2001, FOR GENEALOGY CLASSES IF COUNTY INSURANCE PROVIDES ADEQUATE LIABILITY COVERAGE FOR THE EVENT. THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MOTION. Staff Recommendation: Approve the Motion as Presented. b. Internet Journal MS. AUTREY PRESENTED A MOTION SECONDED BY MR. FELDER TO RECOMMEND TO THE HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION THAT DR. PAULA STATHAKIS BE PAID $15.00 AN HOUR WITH A 100 HOUR MAXIMUM TOTAL WORK TIME TO SERVE AS EDITOR OF THE HLC’S INTERNET JOURNAL. MR. RITCH PRESENTED A MOTION SECONDED BY MS. RICHARDSON TO RECOMMEND TO
THE HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION THAT THE STREETCAR/TROLLEY BARN AT THE
CORNER OF 1300 SOUTH BOULEVARD AND 300 BLAND STREET BE PLACED ON THE HLC’S
STUDY LIST AND THAT THE STANDARD SURVEY AND RESEARCH REPORT BE PREPARED. THE
COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MOTION. Staff Recommendation: Approve the Motion as Presented.
If the Historic Landmarks Commission wishes to acquire the trolley barn it
must be designated as a historic landmark. The essential reason that
the County could not buy the building directly is that the County would be
governed by public bid procedures for the disposal of public property to a
non-governmental entity. MS. BRICKEY PRESENTED A MOTION SECONDED BY MR. CHAMBERS THAT MS. COX ,
ON BEHALF OF THE SURVEY COMMITTEE, COMPILE AND PUBLISH ON THE HLC’S WEBSITE
GUESTBOOK, UNDER THE SURVEY SECTION, BY MIDNIGHT, SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2001,
CONSIDERATIONS, RECOMMENDATIONS AND CONDITIONS THE COMMITTEE EXPRESSED
REGARDING THE STREETCAR/TROLLEY BARN AT THE CORNER OF 1300 SOUTH BOULEVARD
AND 300 BLAND STREET. THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MOTION. (To be
attached to the minutes). This motion requires no action by the Historic Landmarks
Commission. Take action on the motion instead that follows. This is the latest version of the motion from the Survey Committee
concerning the Charlotte Trolley Barn. With following considerations and
conditions the Survey Commitee recommends that the Historic Landmarks
Commission support the historic designation of the former Charlotte
Streetcar Barn:
Staff Recommendation: Delete the initial bullet and then pass the motion. Staff believes the sole responsibility of the Survey Committee is to determine whether the building has or can be made to have sufficient physical integrity to warrant historic landmark designation. |
