Synopsis of Significance: The shotgun house was once a common house form in the African American neighborhoods in and around Charlotte. Today, perhaps no shotgun house in Charlotte remains in its original location and with its form intact. This house’s block foundation may indicate that the house has been moved, however the rarity and importance of this house form, its location in a historically black neighborhood, and its orientation to the street all contribute to its significance.
The narrow front gabled one-story frame house is two-bays wide and four-bays deep. A small shed-roof front porch is supported by square posts. The house features a wooden vent in the front gable, original six-over-six double-hung windows, and a Craftsman Style two-panel six-light front door. The house is covered with vinyl, and a gabled addition covered with aluminum siding is attached to the rear of the house. The east elevation features a single-shoulder brick chimney.
