2. Director's Report: Dan
Morrill
a. Staff did
meet with the owners of properties in Pineville to discuss the prospect
of historic landmark designation.
b. Staff
continues to participate in the Highway 73 Technical Advisory Committee.
c. A UNCC
student intern will be working for the Town of Davidson this semester to
assist in local historic landmark designation and in preparing a
prospective National Register Historic District nomination.
d. Staff will be
visiting the E. C. Griffith House on Hempstead on February 1st to
evaluate the house for historic landmark designation.
3. Study List
Applications
a. Wing Haven
Gardens -- Charlotte

Staff
Recommendation. Place the property on the Study List. The
owner has requested historic landmark designation of the property.
The remainder of the
Study List Applications were produced by UNCC graduate students who
worked under the supervision of Dr. Morrill, who has edited and revised
the reports. More reports will be forthcoming. If the Commission places these properties on the
Study List of prospective landmarks, staff will contact the owners to
ascertain their attitudes about designation. In addition, staff
will work to refine and complete the reports for presentation to an
upcoming meeting of the Survey Committee.

The Town of Davidson is most supportive of having these properties
processed for historic landmark designation.

Properties
As part of the
implementation of the of the Center City Survey, staff recommends that
the owners of the following properties be contacted to determine if they
would support Landmark Designation. Efforts to make the
consideration of the HLC's Center City Survey a priority has not been
successful. Staff believes moving ahead with these properties
would be an effective way to induce a response from the City of
Charlotte.

all aspects of the situation whether a recommendation should be made
that the City of Charlotte designate the property as a historic landmark. The Commission should be aware that the owners oppose
historic landmark designation and that a substantial development is
planned for the property.

Boundaries for the Samuel Neel House.

City of Charlotte adjust the boundaries of the historic landmark as
depicted.
