SURVEY COMMITTEE MEETING

     Mr. Norman welcomed everyone to the meeting.  Mr. Norman reported on HLC actions regarding the recommendations from the Survey Committee  The next meeting of the Survey Committee is scheduled for Thursday, January 6, 2005 at 6:00 p.m.

       Mr. Troy Brown and Mr. Phillip Brown were present to state opposition to processing the Home Finance Company, 1102 South Tryon St., Charlotte, N. C.,  for historic designation.  HLC Staff will provide additional  information for the owners regarding the impact of historic designation on the property.

RECOMMENDATIONS

1. DR. MATTSON PRESENTED A MOTION SECONDED BY MR. ABERNETHY TO RECOMMEND TO THE HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION THAT THE J. LEONARD CASHION FARM, 10500 EASTFIELD ROAD, MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N. C., AND 1.45 ACRES OF LAND, SUBJECT TO INCLUSION OF ADDITIONAL LAND (TO BE DETERMINED BY HLC STAFF) TO PROTECT HISTORIC OUTBUILDINGS, BE PROCESSED FOR HISTORIC DESIGNATION.  THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MOTION.

2. MR. BENSON PRESENTED A MOTION SECONDED BY MR. ABERNETHY TO RECOMMEND TO THE HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION THAT THE INTERIOR AND THE ENTIRE TAX PARCEL OF THE GEORGE STEPHENS HOUSE, 821 HARVARD PLACE, CHARLOTTE, N. C.,  BE  PROCESSED FOR HISTORIC DESIGNATION.  THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MOTION.

Note: The exterior of the house and the front yard of the house are currently designated historic.

3. MR. BENSON PRESENTED A MOTION SECONDED BY DR. MATTSON TO RECOMMEND TO THE HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION THAT THE HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION ADOPT THE OFFICIAL FINDINGS OF THE SURVEY OF HISTORIC BUILDINGS AND PLACES IN PINEVILLE, N. C., AS PRESENTED IN THE REPORT BY DR. DAN MORRILL AND MR. PAUL ARCHAMBAULT.  THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MOTION.

4. MR. ABERNETHY PRESENTED A MOTION SECONDED BY MR. BENSON TO RECOMMEND TO THE HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION THAT THE HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION ADOPT THE OFFICIAL FINDINGS OF THE SURVEY OF HISTORIC BUILDINGS AND PLACES IN CENTER CITY CHARLOTTE, N. C., AS PRESENTED IN THE REPORT BY DR. DAN MORRILL AND MR. STEWART GRAY.  THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MOTION.

Note: The Committee agreed to delay presentation of recommendations regarding properties to be considered for historic designation in the Center City Survey to the HLC’s December meeting.
