SURVEY COMMITTEE MEETING

Ms. Cox reviewed the status of the various properties that are being processed for historic landmarks designation.

Dr. Morrill briefly reviewed the materials that explained what items would be coming before the Commission at this meeting.

MOTIONS

1. MS. RICHARDSON PRESENTED A MOTION SECONDED BY MR. PARKER TO RECOMMEND TO THE HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION THAT CONSIDERATION OF THE NEAL HOUSE, 612 WALNUT AVENUE, CHARLOTTE, N. C., FOR PLACEMENT ON THE HLC’S STUDY LIST OR INVENTORY LIST, BE TABLED UNTIL ADDITIONAL INFORMATION IS RECEIVED BY THE HLC REGARDING THE ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE OF THE HOUSE. THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MOTION.

2. MS. BRICKEY PRESENTED A MOTION SECONDED BY MR. CHAMBERS TO RECOMMEND TO THE HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION THAT DR. MORRILL BE AUTHORIZED TO WRITE A LETTER ON BEHALF OF THE HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION TO THE STATE HISTORIC PRESERVATION OFFICE STATING THAT THE HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION CONCURS WITH THE CHARLOTTE AREA TRANSIT SYSTEM (CATS) REGARDING ITS CONSULTANTS’ ASSESSMENT OF EFFECTS OF THE SOUTH RAIL CORRIDOR UPON PROPERTIES IN THE CORRIDOR WHICH ARE LISTED IN OR ELIGIBLE FOR THE NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES. THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MOTION.

3. DR. MATTSON PRESENTED A MOTION SECONDED BY MS. BOS TO RECOMMEND TO THE HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION THAT THE BRADFORD FARM AND STORE, 15908 DAVIDSON-CONCORD ROAD, HUNTERSVILLE, N. C. (INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR OF THE HOUSE, STORE AND ALL OUTBUILDINGS AND 21 1/2 ACRES ASSOCIATED WITH THE TAX PARCEL) BE PROCESSED FOR HISTORIC LANDMARK DESIGNATION. THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MOTION.

4. MR. PARKER PRESENTED A MOTION SECONDED BY MS. BRICKEY TO RECOMMEND TO THE HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION THAT THE ORDINANCE FOR THE RATCLIFFE FLORIST SHOP, 431 S. TRYON STREET, BE AMENDED AS REQUESTED, REFLECTING THE FACT THAT THE BUILDING HAS BEEN MOVED AND THAT THE GROUND BENEATH THE NEW BUILDING AND THE AIR ABOVE THE NEW BUILDING AND THOSE PORTIONS OF THE INTERIOR OF THE STRUCTURE THAT DO NOT CONTRIBUTE TO THE HISTORIC CHARACTER OF THE BUILDING AS PRESENTLY SITUATED SHOULD BE EXCLUDED FROM THE HISTORIC LANDMARK. THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MOTION.

It should be noted that at the meeting Dr. Mattson told about the Ramah Creek Historic District Study that he and Ms. Frances Alexander are engaged in to identify a possible rural historic district in Huntersville.

Ms. Cox asked that everyone give her the forms stating whether or not she or he would like to serve on the Survey Committee next year. Ms. Cox reported that the Survey Committee would probably convene again in September, 2002.
