Ms. Cox welcomed everyone to the meeting. She thanked the Committee
members for their time and dedication to the Survey Committee not only for
this past year but the years prior to that. She said that her term is ending
on the Historic Landmarks Commission and that there will be a new chairman
of the Committee for the new fiscal year which begins soon. Dr. Morrill and
the Committee members thanked and applauded Ms. Cox for her dedication,
time, expertise and loyalty for the past several years.
- On May 19, 2003, the following properties were designated historic by
City Council: 1) the Newcombe McElwee House, 2) the Grand Theater 3) The
Armature Winding Company 4) the Parks-Hutchinson School 5) additional
acreage at White Oak Plantation
MOTIONS
1. MR. BROOKS PRESENTED A MOTION SECONDED BY MS. BRICKEY TO RECOMMEND TO
THE HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION THAT THE CHAIRMAN BLAKE HOUSE, CHAIRMAN
BLAKE LANE, DAVIDSON, N. C., (INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR, THE LOT ON WHICH THE
HOUSE HAS BEEN RELOCATED AND THE ADJACENT LOT) BE PROCESSED FOR HISTORIC
DESIGNATION. THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MOTION. (Note: Ms.
Richardson was out of the room at the time of the vote due to a phone call.)
2. MR. BOYTE PRESENTED A MOTION SECONDED BY MR. NORMAN TO RECOMMEND TO
THE HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION THAT DAN MORRILL AND STEWART GRAY BE
AUTHORIZED TO CONDUCT A CENTER CITY SURVEY AT A TOTAL COST OF $12,000. THE
COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MOTION.
The Committee left at the end of the meeting for an Appreciation Dinner
honoring Ms. Cox at the East Boulevard Bar and Grill.
