North Tryon Street
Railroad Underpass. UTM: 17
514990E 3898676N North Tryon Street
originally crossed
the Seaboard Air Line Railroad tracks at grade. In October 1939 a major
new underpass opened to traffic. It replaced a two-lane underpass
that was built sometime before, most likely in 1916-17, when major
improvements were made to the nearby A large concrete wall and metal
balustrade separate the western end of the station's parking lot from
North Tryon Street. The same metal balustrade continues above
Tryon Street and borders the track on both sides. The sidewalk passes
through a colonnade as it approaches the bridge from the south. |
